Key learning

The biggest myth companies have is that marketing will save them. It won’t.
But this one trick will forever change your business.
A while back, I met a friend for lunch. He told me about their business, the growth, and the success. During dessert, he mentioned that they had to invest a lot of money into marketing to keep that growth, and it was putting a lot of pressure on the teams, both marketing and sales.
What I found interesting is they measured how much they spent, how many leads were coming in, and how many sales they had closed. Once a month, they reviewed everything and kept doing the same thing. It was all about new messages, new discounts, and special offers.
The most important thing they never spoke about: the customer journey.
By the time we had our espressos, we had mapped out the customer journey, from ad, to email, to message, to website conversions. We had a complete structure on a napkin.
And guess what?
He had no idea what happened in every step or how many dropped in each of those. My friend didn’t know if they had the right message or text, if it was aligned with their brand, or even worse, what the goal was in each of them.
Don’t even get me started on emotions and how each step makes the clients feel.
You would expect these to be basic stuff, right?
So I’ll ask you this: do you have that flow? Do you measure where your clients are dropping off?
Choose one customer journey and map it out. I prefer the best-performing one because it will be easier to improve.
🚶♂️ How does the journey start?
🎯 What is the end goal?
🛒 What type of purchase is it (online? Physical?)
🗺️ Map every step.
🙈 What happens if they drop off?
👋 Do you just say goodbye?
🤐 Do you even talk to them?
📬 What is the communication channel in each step?
🗣️ How is your brand talking to them (polite, casual, pushy?)
❤️🔥 What emotions are you using?
💞 How do you want them to feel in each step?
Measure the cost per lead, cost per acquisition, and start tracking each step.
In some cases, we found a 23% increase just by changing the first automated message. Instead of showing value, prospects felt it was pushy. Small change, huge difference.
With another client, we were able to double our closing rates, doubling revenue in 8 weeks with the same initial marketing budget.
Never start a marketing plan without a customer journey. Make sure you involve your sales team, your marketing team, and, if you have an on-premise sales crew, make sure they understand how important they are to this process.
And by the way, start planning your retention plan too. Growing your list and building your loyal fan base is key. But that’s for another post.
You don’t need to be the best. You just need to be above average.

We have a green light
I’ve recently spoken here and on YouTube about my website. It’s been a hectic couple of months. We cleaned up the site from over 14,000 pages to about 40 relevant ones, started the redesign, and created a new layout for the articles section. We also added a new Storyletter section so you can consume all the content in one place.
Fixing the site, content, speed, and SEO is starting to show some promising results (as you can see in the image below).

Next steps: improve the homepage, start adding new content, and include information about The Business Catcher, upcoming workshops, and more.
We’re also working on the new color scheme, and I have a quick ask for you. We added an “Ask Me Anything” section in the article section. I need your help creating more content.
What can I help you with?
Ask me a specific question relevant to your business or industry and I’ll reply, either via video, audio, or text. We’ll add it to the site.
Feel free to reply to this email or reach out to me directly at [email protected].
Something cool to share
I’ve been playing around with Lovable and Base44 these past two weeks. I’m working on some fun projects in the evenings while watching TV, and I want to invite you to try these tools too. Find something you want to solve in your business or life and build it. It’s like Lego for grownups.
You can also check out something I’ve created (with help from Hagai at Bites):
You can upload your next talk, turn it into cue cards, and practice your pitch.
Really helpful for sales pitches, demo days, VC meetings, and more use cases.
